We had another smashingly-successful Fall Vol Day on Saturday. This is always the “ruff” one in which we have to wrap and weatherproof the kennels for the winter. It’s a physical and time-consuming job, but one that definitely pays off on the sunny but still somewhat windy days. It means the difference from the dogs having to stay inside in their crates or being able to come outside and enjoy the great outdoors during the day.
Thanks to all the troops who showed up and tackled the task at hand without hesitation … and to Kim for keeping everyone moving when we wanted to slack. We covered enough kennels in a few hours to house our current dogs. We still have several to wrap “on the hill,” but are trying to keep our numbers down during the winter months because of the extra work required to make sure everyone is warm and comfortable. Thanks to the folks who are returning today to help. If you’d like to pitch in, come on out! There’s always work to do.
Of course, we always make sure work comes with play time and have no problem celebrating with food. We had four different kinds of chili, fabulous sides and desserts, and fresh-brewed Starbucks coffee (thanks, Mike)! That’s how we roll …
But the highlight of the day? We had some awesome adoption applicants visit to meet a couple of our dogs and things went beautifully with both. We can’t announce until we’re sure everything has worked out at their new homes, but we are super-excited about both … Stay tuned.
