We had a last-minute/unplanned “vol day” this morning. About half of Team Russell showed up to take all of the dogs out for a little while to eat and do their business before tucking them back into their warm crates (on fresh blankets) indoors. The kennels also got some needed fresh hay and repairs; Bert finally let us take him to the vet; and all of the dogs got plenty of love and attention.
Fancy, a former rescue, came out to see Mama Donna. We almost lost her a couple of years ago when we pulled her from the kill shelter and she spent 2 weeks at the vet. Turned out she had a terrible case of the canine flu. She now lives with her 4 JRT siblings (2 from our rescue) with our web volunteer.
It was a few weeks in the waiting/making, but Mama Donna kissed Isabella goodbye today. She went home to for a trial foster stay with our awesome vol “Donna 2.” This poor girl has been absolutely miserable in the kennels, spending her days screaming and jumping. She has always been in a home and never adjusted. Now she’s going to enjoy the luxuries of a home again. Thank you for giving her a chance, Donna!
Thanks to everyone who showed up and busted butt. It sounds like the other half of the team will be out tomorrow. We still need some help on Monday with temperatures plummeting in Atlanta into the single digits … and a rumor of snow!
