Jack Flashback 2012: Gilbert
Gilbert arrived at the ranch from a South Carolina shelter in October 2011 with a big ole wiggly tail and a huge heart … which, unfortunately, was plagued with heartworms. He was also dealing with the aftermath of a bad neuter. He had been on the redline list when his photo ended up in our email box. One look at that adorable face, and we couldn’t fathom the thought of this precious boy leaving this world. We could just tell he had so much love to give.
More than one of our volunteers wanted to take him home permanently, but were not in the position to do so. So, for several months, all the ladies here both dreamed about and dreaded the day this precious boy would find his forever home and leave us.
That day came in March when his parents, Allen and Amy, met him. He was still dealing with heartworms after a slow-kill process didn’t work, but they didn’t care. They had been through the process with their former dog and they knew how to deal with it. They were smitten and so was he.
He has since gone on to conquer heartworms and is living the life in Marietta.
Here’s an update and photos from Mom:
“Gilbert loves sitting on his porch, watching all the neighbors while sunning himself. He is very active and has his favorite dog park where he has meet many new four-legged fiends. He is such a lovely boy, and a major bed hog. He is loved very much. He is a ray of sunshine. Truly!!!!”
