June saw us tackling one of our biggest challenges outside of rescue: Our first fundraiser!

Jack/Chow Fundraiser

Our First Full-Fledged Fundraiser

We have attended fundraisers by other groups throughout the years and knew how much goes into them. A couple of our volunteers were good friends with a couple of volunteers with Chap’s Chow Rescue. They had been wanting to do their own fundraiser as well, and the stars kind of aligned … Well, that and everyone met for weeks ahead of time, solicited tons of donations for silent auctions, and worked tirelessly to pull things off. (Thanks to Kim Davis and Debbie Hasten for working their tails off.)

And, on June 9, we hosted a fundraiser together at Plants Creative Landscapes’ warehouse that was more successful than we could have ever imagined! What an absolutely amazing evening – and, yes, we are thinking about doing it again next year!

Advanced Plumbing of Athens donated their services when our septic system went haywire.

Feeling the Love

Hot on the heals of our fundraiser, we kicked off our first online auction the next weekend for those who wanted to support us at the fundraiser, but couldn’t make it or live outside of Atlanta. It, too, was a smashing success, thanks to you. We raised more than we anticipated, providing a much-needed $500+ for the care of our senior dogs. Thanks to our incredible vol, Cara Thomas, for pulling this one (and the ones to follow) off.

As if that wasn’t enough goodness, Second Life Atlanta also blessed us with a grant to make repairs to the indoor kennel.

After so many months and so many struggles, we were really feeling the love. We even received help for a septic tank problem from Advanced Plumbing of Athens that we had at the end of the month and a major cleanup job from Lane Mitcham when the big branch out front crashed to the ground and covered the porch. It was like Christmas in June!
