We are only six days into the new year and we already have so much to be thankful for – and so many people to thank! We have literally received so many donations over the holidays and in recent hours that we don’t even know where to begin. But we’re gonna!
Let’s start with one that has just left us floored: A very generous donation from Decatur Knitters.
Long story short, member Jane Cox lost her beloved Jack awhile back. A couple of her friends, Alan and Janie Yorker, were at the park one day when they ran into our dedicated volunteer Sally Hall. Sally was walking Maxie, one of our puppy mill rescues from 2010. She was fostering Maxie at the time with plans to take her to obedience training and help her overcome her past. This is something we wish we could do for all of our rescues as it improves their adoption chances by leaps and bounds.
Through networking with the Yorkers, Jane had plans to adopt Maxie. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out, but that didn’t make any difference: Jane insisted on paying for Maxie’s obedience training and stayed in touch with us. Thanks to Jane and Jabula Dog Academy, Maxie graduated and found her forever home … in her current foster home with Sally. (wink)
As if that wasn’t enough, Jane recently told her knitting club that she would match any yarn she sold to them and donate it to us. The ladies all chipped in and, thanks to them, we received a wonderful and much-needed donation this week that will help us pay some outstanding vet bills.
Thank you, ladies, and, of course, Maxie for being the catalyst in all of this. You have brought so much hope and joy to so many people and dogs.
Meet Maxie
Maxie was officially adopted in late 2010. Mom says: “She was a puppy mill dog who knew nothing except how to make babies! I thought I would foster her to teach her things to make her adoptable! She stayed in her crate even with the door open. When we took her outside she would not leave the patio, insisting to do her business on the comfortable brick and mortar! Well, enough of the past! I am a foster failure as Maxie taught me a thing or two and I could not imagine our pack without her! Today, she is full on Jack Russell and loving life!”
