Ready to get your weekend smile on early? The road home was long, but Millie has finally arrived!
Back in January 2013, one of our vols went to the kill shelter to pick up a “JRT boy who had been stabbed.” That little boy turned out to be a gorgeous, big girl who most likely got snagged and injured on something while she was running loose. At 50 pounds, she was too large for our rescue, but they were taking her to “the room.” There was no way we could say no.
We soon found out she was heartworm positive, so after her stitches healed, she spent several weeks in treatment. That was no easy challenge, keeping that happy-go-lucky, active girl down, but she sailed through it like a champ and started joining us at adoption events.
Despite her amazing disposition (smiles, smiles and more smiles) and immediate love for everyone she met, this precious girl was overlooked for months. Many people fell in love with her, but she was just “too big” for anyone to take home. We knew she was going to have to find another rescue. That, of course, is easier said than done, given almost all rescues in the South are full and have been full for months and even years.
Wanting something better for her, a couple of the vols reached out to our great friends up north at Canine Commitment of New England and asked them if they would take her. They had a much larger reach with adoptive parents who were looking for dogs just like her. She left the ranch in August to head to her new foster home in New England and, within no time, gained interest!
And today? She is officially living the forever life with her new parents, who could not love her more if they tried.
Congratulations, sweetheart, and thank you to Melissa and Canine Commitment for giving this girl the life she has always deserved! We miss her goofy smile around the ranch, but we know she is loved beyond words.
